Size
On the rear of the lift truck is a counterbalance, which enables the forklift to lift very heavy objects. The counterbalance provides balance so that the equipment will not tip over while lifting and transporting heavy loads. Forklifts are rated according to their load capacity. A small lift truck that could lift 1800 kilograms weighs about 4000 kilograms, which is equivalent to two full-size pickup trucks. The largest forklifts could have up to 36,000 kilograms of lifting capacity.

Considerations
In operating a lift truck, there are a lot of safety issues. Like for instance, travel in reverse while driving down a ramp. You must also haul a load in reverse if the cargo is bulky and interferes with vision. Operators need to be familiar with how to safely mount the lift using the "three-point stance." This includes placing the right hand on the back of the seat, while gripping the upright of the safety cage with the left hand and putting the left foot on the step. On no account should you jump out of a forklift even during a tip over. It is a lot safer to remain inside the confines of the lift. Any slip or fall on a forklift can result in severe injuries.

Potential
Forklifts are considered indispensable tools in a lot of businesses because they could be utilized to quickly and efficiently unload and load products and materials safely and with little physical exertion. Pedestrian safety is a primary consideration when working in public spaces. Operators must always give pedestrians the right-of-way. A lift truck must never be driven on a highway or on uneven surfaces. The driver must have a seat belt tightly fastened at all times when driving.

Expert Insight
Forklifts will always be necessary pieces of equipment for businesses since forklifts are an essential tool in any culture which produces and consumes mass-produced products. OSHA supervises compliance standards for businesses that utilize forklifts and provides certification and licensing protocols. The lift truck Rodeo is an entertainment event intended for operators and other personnel which involves an obstacle course and other entertaining spectacles.
