Types of Hydraulic Cranes
Hydraulic cranes are one of the most frequently used types of crane in the construction industry. They are used to make everything from skyscrapers and buildings to freeway overpasses and roadways.
Cranes come in a wide range of units, sizes and styles. These different units allow the operators and owners to carry out many more functions in their business. Choosing the best type of crane is really vital for making sure that the material can be safely and efficiently moved to the location it has to get to in order for the construction process to start.
Truck Cranes
Normally, truck cranes have 2 different cabs. One cab is for controlling the crane and the other is for driving the truck when the unit is in transport mode. These cranes are very useful for building locations where a crane is needed in many different places for the duration of the build. This is due to the fact that the crane could be easily driven from one location to another.
Additionally, the cranes are able to be transported to various construction sites on the road since they can drive themselves and this eliminates the need for extra transport vehicles. Being able to travel on their own greatly reduces transport costs at the end of the day.
One disadvantage of a truck crane is that it is not stable enough sitting on tires alone in order to be able to lift the major loads which a hydraulic crane could handle. Thus, so as to fix this issue, outriggers could be extended from the deck. The outriggers use hydraulic pressure in order to slightly lift the truck off of the ground, making it stable and balanced.
Crawler-Mounted Cranes
The crawler crane is unique in that it has huge tracks on the base of the crane. These massive tracks are very like backhoes and bulldozers. The tracks allow the crane to successfully move around a construction site.
