Made to both lower and lift loaded pallets from storage areas that are high is a narrow aisle forklift. This particular model is recommended for work environments with narrow spaces between aisles, such as retail establishments or warehouses. The forklift has small, solid rubber tires that make maneuvering very easy.

The operator of this type of forklift generally stands up in a small cockpit. The stand-up design enables the narrow aisle forklift to be as narrow ans short as possible. A stand-up cockpit forklift normally has three tires: two in the front, and one in the back. This configuration enables for fast and easy maneuvering. There are some models of these forklifts which are available with a sit-down cockpit. The lift attachment could pivot to the sides, permitting the lift to be operated without the operator having to move the entire machine. The sit-down version normally has four wheels.

Numerous narrow aisle forklifts are powered with an electric engine. Electric-powered machines are quiet and do not produce exhaust fumes, making them the suitable alternative for closed places such as retail spaces. Several lifts come with a diesel engine or a gas engine. However, the diesel model is not recommended for indoor application because it can produce exhaust and be noisy.
