History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The company's initial name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling equipment. During 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years.
