Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are many parts that make up a lift truck. The forklifts major parts comprise the truck frame, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Additionally, a forklift has a variety of attachments. All the components which make up a forklift are of equal importance since they work together to make the operation of the machinery possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe some of the forklift parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the machinery operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls inside the cab or injure the operator. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on several units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck component made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move up and downwards whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and various other kinds of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a variety of attachments can be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. Furthermore, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, roll clamps, pole handlers and so forth. These various attachments are really helpful for moving different types of loads.
